Falling Waters to Little Haystack (9/26)

Day trip in the White mountains! It’s about a 6.5 mile day hike up the beautiful Falling Waters Trail to the top of Mt. Little Haystack. It’s a 3000 foot elevation gain, and Mt. Little Haystack is actually not so little – at 4787′ it’s¬†one of the 48 4K’ mountains in the whites. So be prepared for a moderate to advanced hike. Prior experience highly recommended!!

Meeting: Behind CAS in the parking lot across from the admissions building at 7:30am Saturday morning. Do not show up late!

Where – Mt. Little Haystack, New Hampshire. Parking near Mt. Lafayette campground.

Difficulty –Moderate to Difficult, experience hiking highly recommended

Maximum Attendance – 10 students

Cost –$20, $10 for season pass holders
Food- Not provided. Bring breakfast, snacks, and lunch.

Transportation – student transportation

What to bring –

Back Pack
At least 2 Liters of Water
Clothing appropriate for hiking in current temperatures. Layers! Even on a sunny day it can be cold and windy at the peak.
Hiking boots
Non cotton base layer (polypro, wool, capilene®, cool max® bergilene®)
BUOC and SAO waiver forms
Suggested items: sunscreen, sun glasses, hat of some sort, cameras. Bathing suit & Towel to take a dip in a waterfall if you want!

What: We are going to hike the Franconia Ridge Loop in Lincoln, NH. We will drive up to Lafayette campsite Friday night. We will wake up early on Saturday to hike the entire Franconia Ridge Loop, which includes Mount Lafayette, Mount Lincoln, and Little Haystack Mountain. We will be back on campus by Saturday night!

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind Marsh Plaza at 6pm on Friday (10/2), aiming to get to the campsite in time to set up camp and make dinner before it gets dark. We will get back by 7pm on Saturday (10/3).

Difficulty: Difficult. This is a 9-mile hike with 5,000ft of elevation gain. Previous hiking experience is required.

Price: $25 for members, $35 for non- members, free for drivers!

What: Beautiful Day Hike!

When: Saturday, September 26th. We will leave Marsh Plaza at 11:45 and return by 5pm.

Where: Blue Hills Reservation Рa state park about 30 mins from Boston

Transportation: we will take public transportation and/or Ubers

Cost: about $20 for transportation

Difficulty: Easy

Max Attendance: 30 people

Rock Climbing At Rumney (9/20)

Who wants to go Rock Climbing outside!!! This Sunday 9/20, we will be driving up to Rumney, NH for some classic New England climbing. Everyone needs to bring their own rock shoes, needs to know how to tie into a rope, and needs to know proper belay technique. Preferably, everyone should be belay certified at the FitRec climbing wall or a reputable gym. The Outing Club has a couple extra harnesses but everyone should have one. If you do not have one, I will let you know if the club can provide one.

When – Sunday, September 20th from 7am to 7pm

Where – Rumney, NH

Difficulty – Outdoor climbing experience is recommended but not required. We will be top roping so proper belay and rope skills are required

Maximum Attendance – 10 students

Cost – Based on drivers and TBD but I will let you know soon, it will be well under $20

Food- Lunch will be provided

Transportation – student transportation

What to bring –

Back Pack
2 Liters of Water
Clothing appropriate for hiking in current temperatures. Layers!
Hiking boots or appropriate, sturdy close toed shoes.

Boston Harbor Islands Day Trip 9/19

Come on a fun day trip this Saturday to one of the Boston Harbor Islands, Spectacle Island!

We will be meeting at 11:45am at Marsh Plaza. We will leave at noon sharp, and we will leave without you if you aren’t there. You can plan to be back at BU around 5pm.

We will take the T downtown (you do NOT need a Charlie card for this trip, the cost of the ride is included in the trip costs), and then take a ferry to Spectacle Island. Once there, we will have a picnic lunch (food is provided!), hang out on the beach, hike around the island, and have a great time. We will take the 30 minute ferry ride back to Boston and head back to BU on the T.

Trip Cost: $20 for Season Passholders, $30 for non-Season Passholders
Cost includes 2 rides on the T, 2 ferry rides, and lunch

Max attendance: 20 people

What to Bring:
-$20 or $30 for trip cost
-student ID – we are getting a special discount for the ferry 🙂
-towel or blanket for the beach

Cape Cod Overnight 9/19-9/20

Who want’s to stay on campus when you can come to Cape Cod with us!? Join us for an overnight this weekend.

What: Overnight Cape Cod Beach Trip, biking by the beach, frisbee on the beach, swimming, campfires, and camping!

When: 9/19 to 9/20, we will leave Marsh Plaza at 10am Saturday and return around 1pm on Sunday.

Where: Nickerson State Park, MA and nearby beaches.

Transportation: 3 Student drivers

Cost: $35. $25 if you have a season pass

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Max Attendance:15

Gear to Bring: Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, frisbee, instruments (guitar ect), swimsuit, towel, comfortable clothing for biking, fleece layers or warm clothing for nighttime, toiletries, and snacks

Extras: Lunch and dinner on saturday will be provided, on sunday breakfast will be provided.

We will be walking from Marsh Plaza down through the Emerald Necklace and around Jamaica Pond, eating lunch and playing fetch with the pups, and then returning to campus.

When: Sunday 4/19 @ 11 am-2:30 pm

Where: Jamaica Pond via Emerald Necklace (Total distance: ~6 mi)

Difficulty: Easy

Alumni Trip 4/25

BUOC is starting an alumni association!

On Saturday April 25th, we invite you to join a group of BUOCers with senioritis for a short afternoon hike and a home-cooked dinner in Ashland, NH. This end of the year gathering will celebrate the formation of BU Outdoors Alumni Association (BUOAA), a community of outdoor adventurists and stewards of the environment who look back on their days in the BU Outing Club with nostalgia. All are welcome to stay Saturday night (overnight accommodations may involve camping). Alternatively, you can meet us for a longer hike on Sunday (exact location to be determined).



What: a short beautiful hike of Rattlesnake Mountain with a view of Squam Lake. After the hike we’ll go to Ashland for a home cooked meal and socializing

When: Saturday, April 25th. We will leave from Marsh Plaza at BU 1:00 and aim to be at the trailhead parking lot to start hiking at 4:00.

Where: Trailhead parking is 5.5 miles north of Holderness (on rt 113). We’ll meander up Old Bridle Path to the rocky outcrop at the top of West Rattlesnake Mountain, for 2 miles total and about 500ft elevation gain.
