Middlesex Fells day hike Saturday 11/7

What: We going for a day hike to Middlesex Fells Reservoir for a day of hiking. Middlesex Fells is right outside of Boston and is a great hike for people new to hiking or those looking for a relaxed day trip. 

Where/When: We will be meeting at 11am at Marsh Plaza (leaving at 11:15 sharp!) and expect to return around 4-5.

Difficulty: The hike will be roughly 3 miles with the option for an additional easy 1-1.5 mile loop over easy-moderate terrain.

What to Bring:

  • warm, weather-appropriate clothes (dress in layers)
  • Day pack
  • a lunch, snacks, and water
  • phone with Uber, lyft, or a few¬†$
  • Hiking boots are recommended but not required.

Additional Info: There may or may not be a dog on the trip

Cost: Just the cost or transportation

Transportation: We will be taking Uber/lyft

Franklin Park Zoo Day Trip! (10/25)

We are leading an exciting trip to Boston’s own Franklin Park Zoo! The trip will take place on Sunday, 10/25. The zoo is open from 10-4, so we will be meeting at 10:15 and will be back before 5:00. Prepare to see tigers, giraffes, birds, and go to an awesome petting zoo.

Horse Riding in Quebec!!!

Do you love horses? The outdoors? Or just having a great time? Then come with BUOC¬†to Quebec Canada on November 6-8th to do just that! We will depart Boston in the afternoon¬†on Friday November 6th¬†and travel to¬†Auberge D’Andromede, a quint French Canadian inn nestled in the hills of Courcelles Quebec, where we will be lodging Friday night. Saturday, after enjoying an authentic French meal prepared for us by the innkeepers, we will set out on an all day horseback ride through the beautiful wilderness of Courcelles, Quebec. Saturday evening we will travel to Parc National de Jacques-Cartier¬†where we will camp that night. Sunday, we will hike through the Parc National de Jacques-Cartier¬†and then head back to Boston that evening. This is a unique trip because it allows students to step out of urban Boston, and immerse themselves in French Canadian culture while giving them the¬†opportunity to experience the wilderness on horse back and on foot!

When: November 6th-8th

Where: Quebec, Canada

Who: Trip capacity 10 persons

Difficulty: Hard

Transportation: We are looking for two student drivers for this trip! If you are interested in driving please let us know when you sign up! Drivers will receive a discounted rate for the trip!

Price: Unfortunately at this time we are unable to specify the price for this trip as we are not yet aware of how much funding we will be receiving for this excursion. As an estimate, the price of this trip last spring was $87. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we will update this information as soon as possible.

Things to note:

  • ¬†You MUST have a VALID PASSPORT to attend this trip!!!
  • You MUST have had prior experience working with and riding horses!!
  • This trip will be departing from BU at 1:30pm on Friday November 6th!!!¬†Please DO NOT sign up if you are unable to leave Boston at this time!!!!!!!

Cannon Mountain Overnight [10/23-10/24]

What: Hey BUOC, come hang out in New Hampshire for the weekend! We will be heading out to climb Cannon Mountain, a 4,000 footer in the White Mountains. We will be driving up Friday 10/23 and camping at Lafayette campground, then doing a 6 mile hike on Saturday to Cannon Mountain.

Difficulty: Moderate. Hiking boots will be required!

Where/When: We will be leaving BU at 7pm on Friday 10/23, arriving at the campsite around 10pm. We’ll spend Saturday 10/24 hiking and chilling, and return to campus by 9pm Saturday night.

Cost: $15 for season pass holders, $25 for non-pass holders

Farm Sanctuary 10/18

Let’s go to a farm!! We will be taking a tour at Sunny Meadow Farm Sanctuary (about an hour outside of Boston) and hanging out with the animals for the afternoon.

Who: Max 10 people (based on driver availability)

When: Sunday, October 18th — meet at Marsh at 12 noon and get back to BU by 6 pm.

Cost: $15 (includes a $10 donation to the farm plus transportation costs)

Why: Because we <3 animals

Let’s hang out at Walden Pond! This beautiful pond & wildlife refuge is only about a 30¬†minute drive from Boston. It’s a great opportunity to¬†hang out with your friends, meet new friends, and be inspired by Thoreau’s favorite nature spot! We’ll go for a little walk around the pond and then hang out on the beach. There will be two transportation options for this trip: a car ride and a bike ride!

Where: Walden Pond in Concord, MA (Meet at Marsh Plaza)

  • Roundtrip milage: ~40 mi
  • Estimated time for one way trip: 2 hrs
  • We will be on the city roads for about 45 mins before we¬†get onto the Minuteman bikeway in Arlington
  • From the Minuteman it’ll be¬†smooth sailing past¬†towns, some meadows and farms, and under the shades of beautiful autumn trees
  • It isn’t going to be a race to get to Walden, so don’t be afraid to join. It’ll be a relaxed ride. We’ll make stops along the way whenever it is fitting. There are¬†a plethora of wonderful places to explore,¬†catch our breaths, and nibble on food. It’ll be worth it

Acadia National Park (10/16-10/18)

What: Hey BUOC, the weekend of October 16th-18th we are heading to Acadia National Park! Our plan is to do some easy, but very scenic, day hiking Saturday as well as some rock climbing on the famous waterfront Otter Cliffs. This trip is not going to be very strenuous. Our plan is to relax so leave your stress in Boston and be rhetty (HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) to take pictures because the foliage is going to be amazing.

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind CAS and Marsh Plaza Friday afternoon (10/16). Friday night we will set up camp in Acadia National Park. Saturday will be full of epicness and we will get back to Boston by 5pm on Sunday (10/18).

Price: $30 Season Pass Holders and $40 for Non-Pass Holders

Packing List (* means we can provide it):

  • Backpack*
  • Sleeping bag *
  • Sleeping pad *
  • 2 water bottles

Hello BUOC-ers!! Come enjoy a lovely overnight camping trip to Mt. Moosalamoo!

Where: Green Mountains, VT, Mt. Moosalamoo

What: We will drive up to the Mt. Moosalamoo campsite Friday night, where we will set up camp and eat dinner. On Saturday, we are going to hike up Mt. Moosalamoo, where we will get great views of the summit, Lake Dunmore, Lake Champlain, and Lake George. We will be back on campus Saturday night!

When/time: We will meet at Marsh Plaza Friday night at 5pm.

Difficulty: Moderate, some hiking experience required. We will be doing an 8.1 mile hike with a climb of 870 ft (and some awesome views!!).

Price:  $20 for members, $30 for non-members

Join us on a rad overnight in the White Mountains!

What: Hey BUOC! Next weekend (October 2-4) we are gonna be headed to the White Mountains for a two-night presidential traverse! This will be a very challenging but rewarding trip where we will hike the whole Presidential Range in the White Mountains which includes SEVEN 4000 footers!

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind Marsh Plaza at 1pm on Friday (10/2), aiming to hike Jackson and get to our campsite by 8pm Friday night, hike most of the ridge Saturday during that day and hike down Sunday. We will get back by 5pm on Sunday (10/3).

Difficulty: Very difficult, 25+ miles.. this is not a hike to take lightly, backpacking experience required!

Price: $30 for members, $40 for non- members, free for drivers!
