Show off your climbing skills and win SWEET PRIZES! BU Outing Club is hosting our first Bouldering Competition at the Rock Wall at BU’s Fitness & Recreation Center!

Climbs will range from V0-V9, and split into beginner, intermediate, and advanced blocks for male and female climbers. Finals will be held towards the end for the advanced category.

TONS OF PRIZES from our sponsors for top competitors in each category including Grand Trunk Hammocks, Butora climbing shoes, tons of Adidas Outdoor swag, and MORE!

Walden Pond Day Trip (3/19)

Come out for a fun day of relaxing, studying (if you want to), picnicking and strolling! It’s supposed to be sunny this weekend, so let’s make the most of it by going to Concord’s famous Walden Pond!

What: A day trip to Walden Pond for a picnic and relaxing.

When: Saturday, March 19 from 10 am to 4 pm

Difficulty: On a scale of 1-10, the level of difficulty is 0.

Cost: We will be taking Uber/Lyft, so the only cost is the cost of transportation (around $20)

What to bring:

  • Lunch
  • Money for transportation
  • Warm clothes (estimated temperature is 45 degrees)
  • Blanket/beach towel
  • Water
  • Optional: camera, journal, study materials, frisbee, slackline

Maple Syrup Making Trip

Do you have a sweet tooth? Ever wonder how maple syrup is made? Look no further, BUOC is going up to Meredith, NH to learn about the process of making maple syrup.


What:¬†We will be collecting sap from maple trees that have been tapped and boiling down the sap for HOURS to make syrup. And at the end…. TASTING THE BEST SYRUP IN THE WORLD.


Cost: $20 for BUOC Season Pass Holders/$30 for non-pass holders (please try to bring exact change!). Covers transportation, accommodation, food (dinner and breakfast), some snacks, and of course, maple syrup.


When: Leaving BU Saturday, March 19th at 7am from Marsh Plaza and driving ~2 hrs to Meredith, NH.

Leaving NH Sunday late morning, March 20th.

Accommodations will be provided by trip leader Shannon’s wonderful mother and aunt&uncle who live in Meredith.


Additional details:

We will be leaving early Saturday in order to have the whole day to make syrup (it takes a while).

Everyone will be able to bring home some maple syrup; however, we have to share with my aunt and uncle who also give it to friends and family.

Also, my aunt and uncle have a cat and¬†three springer spaniel dogs so you have to like cats/dogs in order to go on this trip!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 LOOK AT THESE BEAUTIES

What to bring:

  • Pillow/sleeping bag or blanket (if you do not have a sleeping bag we can provide one, just let me know)
  • Overnight stuff (pjs, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Warm clothes – we will be outside a good portion of the day, so bring some layers and check the weather before the weekend.
  • Comfortable/warm boots or shoes – again, we will be outside on our feet most of the day.
  • Lunch/snacks for Saturday. And for Sunday if you like snacking 😉
  • Ball/Mason jar for some syrup!! If you don’t have one, we can go purchase at an additional (small) expense.

Wachusett Mountain Ski Trip (2/27-2/28) and Day Hike (2/28)

Hi BUOC! Want to go skiing? Want to go hiking? Look no further than Wachusett Mountain, MA. This weekend you can sign up to either go skiing or hiking on Sunday the 28th. The hiking group will leave Sunday morning and return later that day. The skiing group will leave at 5pm on Saturday the 27th so we can hit the slopes early Sunday.

What: A skiing group will head up to BUOC alumni Patrick Orrell’s house in Princeton MA Saturday evening. The next morning the skiing group will head over early to Wachusett Mountain. While the skiing group is hitting the slopes Sunday morning, a second group will be driving up to hike Wachusetts Mountain. We will all meet up for lunch and a meal at Pat’s house at the end of the day before heading back to Boston.


Date/Time: Skiers: Leaving Boston at 5pm Saturday afternoon (2/27)

Returning to Boston Sunday afternoon around 6pm (2/28)

Hikers: Leaving Boston at 8am Sunday morning (2/28)

Returning to Boston Sunday afternoon around 6pm (2/28)


Estimated Cost: Hikers: $10 members… $20 nonmembers

Skiers: ^trip cost + personal lift ticket ($55). Rental information provided after sign ups.


Max Attendance: Skiing– 6 people

Hiking– 12 people


Food: Most of the food is being provided by our awesome BUOC alumni Patrick Orrell! He will have dinner for the skiing group Saturday, breakfast Sunday, and another meal (where the hiking group will join) before we go back to Boston Sunday afternoon. Still be sure to bring personal snacks and a lunch for Sunday.

hey everybody!!! This weekend we are going on an awesome trip to Mt. Major in the NH LAKES REGION!!! The hike is about ~4-6 miles. We will hike up Mt. Major and have some lunch, and then depending how we are feeling we may hike a little extra to Straightback Mountain!

Lakes Region = amazing views of Lake Winni and surrounding area!!!! GET EXCITED.

What: An awesome day hike offering great views of the lakes region in NH!

Difficulty: Moderate / some hiking experience required

Cost: $5 for BUOC Season Pass Holders/ $15 for non-pass holders. Covers transportation/some snacks.

When: Sunday, February 21st. Leave Boston around 7am and return by evening.

What: The Wilderness First Aid class (WFA) will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

What:¬†Hey BUOC! Want to lead trips through the Outing Club? Come on Part 1 of trip leader training this weekend (2/6-2/7). We will be going for a hike Saturday afternoon up Mt. Isreal so be sure to bring proper hiking attire. After the hike we will head to our campground to teach trip leader fundamentals and unwind for the night. Sunday morning the plan is to put everything we’ve learned together to plan your first trip! Don’t worry about missing the Super Bowl Sunday, we are going to make it back to Boston with plenty of time to spare. Part 2 of the training will be Wednesday night (2/10) from 6:45-8pm in SAR 101. This training segment will go over the technological side of leading trips so bring you laptop.

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind CAS and Marsh Plaza Saturday morning (2/6) at 8am. From there we will be driving directly to Mt. Isreal, NH for a 4 mile hike so be sure to pack a lunch! After the hike we will be staying at Mead Base Campground in Sandwich, NH. Sunday afternoon we will head back to Boston. 

Price: $20 Season Pass Holders and $30 for Non-Pass Holders

Come join the Outing Club for a fun winter hike! Mount Moosilauke has amazing views of the surrounding White Mountains and Vermont.

What: A day hike in New Hampshire

Cost: $10 for pass-holders/$20 for non-pass holders. This covers transportation and some snacks!

When: Saturday, February 13th. We’ll leave Boston around 7:30 am and return in the evening.

Difficulty: Winter hiking is more challenging than summer hiking.

What to Bring:

  • Snacks and a lunch

  • Extra socks
  • Winter clothing (hats, scarves, gloves, etc)

Want to get out of the city for a day and get some exercise outdoors? Join us for a great day hike in NH offering amazing winter views of the NH lake district! West Rattlesnake is considered a family friendly hike but will be more challenging in the winter conditions so be prepared!
