Cannon Mountain Overnight [10/23-10/24]

What: Hey BUOC, come hang out in New Hampshire for the weekend! We will be heading out to climb Cannon Mountain, a 4,000 footer in the White Mountains. We will be driving up Friday 10/23 and camping at Lafayette campground, then doing a 6 mile hike on Saturday to Cannon Mountain.

Difficulty: Moderate. Hiking boots will be required!

Where/When: We will be leaving BU at 7pm on Friday 10/23, arriving at the campsite around 10pm. We’ll spend Saturday 10/24 hiking and chilling, and return to campus by 9pm Saturday night.

Cost: $15 for season pass holders, $25 for non-pass holders

  • 2 water bottles
  • Dinner for Friday night & snacks for Saturday
  • Bowl/eating utensil

Farm Sanctuary 10/18

Hey BUOC!

Let’s go to a farm!! We will be taking a tour at Sunny Meadow Farm Sanctuary (about an hour outside of Boston) and hanging out with the animals for the afternoon.

Who: Max 10 people (based on driver availability)

When: Sunday, October 18th — meet at Marsh at 12 noon and get back to BU by 6 pm.

Cost: $15 (includes a $10 donation to the farm plus transportation costs)

Why: Because we <3 animals

[10/17] Walden Pond Day Trip

Let’s hang out at Walden Pond! This beautiful pond & wildlife refuge is only about a 30¬†minute drive from Boston. It’s a great opportunity to¬†hang out with your friends, meet new friends, and be inspired by Thoreau’s favorite nature spot! We’ll go for a little walk around the pond and then hang out on the beach. There will be two transportation options for this trip: a car ride and a bike ride!

When:

CAR РMeet at Marsh Plaza On Saturday, October 17th at 11:45am. Back to Boston around 5pm.

BIKE РMeet at Marsh Plaza at 9:30 am (please remember to eat breakfast beforehand and bring your water bottle)

Where: Walden Pond in Concord, MA (Meet at Marsh Plaza)

  • Roundtrip milage: ~40 mi
  • Estimated time for one way trip: 2 hrs
  • We will be on the city roads for about 45 mins before we¬†get onto the Minuteman bikeway in Arlington
  • From the Minuteman it’ll be¬†smooth sailing past¬†towns, some meadows and farms, and under the shades of beautiful autumn trees
  • It isn’t going to be a race to get to Walden, so don’t be afraid to join. It’ll be a relaxed ride. We’ll make stops along the way whenever it is fitting. There are¬†a plethora of wonderful places to explore,¬†catch our breaths, and nibble on food. It’ll be worth it

Acadia National Park (10/16-10/18)

An email will be sent out by the end of Friday 10/9 to all who made it on the trip. 

What: Hey BUOC, the weekend of October 16th-18th we are heading to Acadia National Park! Our plan is to do some easy, but very scenic, day hiking Saturday as well as some rock climbing on the famous waterfront Otter Cliffs. This trip is not going to be very strenuous. Our plan is to relax so leave your stress in Boston and be rhetty (HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) to take pictures because the foliage is going to be amazing.

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind CAS and Marsh Plaza Friday afternoon (10/16). Friday night we will set up camp in Acadia National Park. Saturday will be full of epicness and we will get back to Boston by 5pm on Sunday (10/18).

Price: $30 Season Pass Holders and $40 for Non-Pass Holders

  • Backpack*

  • Sleeping pad *

Hello BUOC-ers!! Come enjoy a lovely overnight camping trip to Mt. Moosalamoo!

Where: Green Mountains, VT, Mt. Moosalamoo

What: We will drive up to the Mt. Moosalamoo campsite Friday night, where we will set up camp and eat dinner. On Saturday, we are going to hike up Mt. Moosalamoo, where we will get great views of the summit, Lake Dunmore, Lake Champlain, and Lake George. We will be back on campus Saturday night!

When/time: We will meet at Marsh Plaza Friday night at 5pm.

Difficulty: Moderate, some hiking experience required. We will be doing an 8.1 mile hike with a climb of 870 ft (and some awesome views!!).

Price:  $20 for members, $30 for non-members

What: Hey BUOC! Next weekend (October 2-4) we are gonna be headed to the White Mountains for a two-night presidential traverse! This will be a very challenging but rewarding trip where we will hike the whole Presidential Range in the White Mountains which includes SEVEN 4000 footers!

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind Marsh Plaza at 1pm on Friday (10/2), aiming to hike Jackson and get to our campsite by 8pm Friday night, hike most of the ridge Saturday during that day and hike down Sunday. We will get back by 5pm on Sunday (10/3).

Difficulty: Very difficult, 25+ miles.. this is not a hike to take lightly, backpacking experience required!

Price: $30 for members, $40 for non- members, free for drivers!

Falling Waters to Little Haystack (9/26)

Day trip in the White mountains! It’s about a 6.5 mile day hike up the beautiful Falling Waters Trail to the top of Mt. Little Haystack. It’s a 3000 foot elevation gain, and Mt. Little Haystack is actually not so little – at 4787′ it’s¬†one of the 48 4K’ mountains in the whites. So be prepared for a moderate to advanced hike. Prior experience highly recommended!!

Meeting: Behind CAS in the parking lot across from the admissions building at 7:30am Saturday morning. Do not show up late!

Where – Mt. Little Haystack, New Hampshire. Parking near Mt. Lafayette campground.

Difficulty –Moderate to Difficult, experience hiking highly recommended

Maximum Attendance – 10 students

Cost –$20, $10 for season pass holders
Food- Not provided. Bring breakfast, snacks, and lunch.

Transportation – student transportation

What to bring –

Back Pack
At least 2 Liters of Water
Clothing appropriate for hiking in current temperatures. Layers! Even on a sunny day it can be cold and windy at the peak.
Hiking boots
Non cotton base layer (polypro, wool, capilene®, cool max® bergilene®)
BUOC and SAO waiver forms
Suggested items: sunscreen, sun glasses, hat of some sort, cameras. Bathing suit & Towel to take a dip in a waterfall if you want!

What: We are going to hike the Franconia Ridge Loop in Lincoln, NH. We will drive up to Lafayette campsite Friday night. We will wake up early on Saturday to hike the entire Franconia Ridge Loop, which includes Mount Lafayette, Mount Lincoln, and Little Haystack Mountain. We will be back on campus by Saturday night!

Where/When: We will meet in the parking lot behind Marsh Plaza at 6pm on Friday (10/2), aiming to get to the campsite in time to set up camp and make dinner before it gets dark. We will get back by 7pm on Saturday (10/3).

Difficulty: Difficult. This is a 9-mile hike with 5,000ft of elevation gain. Previous hiking experience is required.

Price: $25 for members, $35 for non- members, free for drivers!

Where: Blue Hills Reservation Рa state park about 30 mins from Boston

Transportation: we will take public transportation and/or Ubers
